All That Jazz…

By Jessica Laniewski

Craving the smooth sounds of Duke Ellington and Miles Davis?  Sway to the beat this month at the 5th Annual Provincetown Jazz Festival.  This three-day Jazz Festival, the only one of its kind on the Cape, is being held August 14th though August 16th.

Provincetown resident and well-known local musician Bart Weisman founded the Festival and is impressed by its strength year after year, “I thought:  build it and they will come,” says Weisman, who has brought in local music groups as well as skilled musicians from abroad.

Vocal trio String of Pearls is opening the Festival on Friday night and performing alongside will be Weisman on Drums, Osterville bass player Laird Boles and Yarmouth pianist Fred Boyle.  All three Cape Codders will also perform with Swiss vocalist Beat Kaestli that evening.

Other Performers include Shawnn Monteiro, Krisanthi Pappas, John Harrison III, Jim Robitaille, and New York’s Finest Jazz Ensemble, an 18-member big band made up entirely of New York City Police Officers.  For more information, visit www.provincetownjazzfestival.org.
