SummerÕs not over!
Need proof? Here are more than a dozen summer music festivals you can
still go to.
ThatÕs right, the carefully curated music festival craze is in full swing
in Massachusetts. So while we still donÕt have our own Bonnaroo or Coachella,
weÕve got something better: small festivals tailored to specific music fans.
Hippies and hipsters, headbangers and hepcats all can find a fest perfect for a
summer afternoon (or a whole weekend).
¥ Newport
Jazz Festival — Newport, R.I.; today-Sunday; newportjazzfest.net
You missed
the Folk Fest (shame on you!), but you can still attend the big jazz event. As
to be expected, there are plenty of aging legends: Dave Brubrek, Wynton Marsalis,
and Al Di Meola.
¥ The
Naukabout Music Festival — East Falmouth; tomorrow; naukabout.com
Forget the
tie-dye; slip on some whale shorts for this neo-hippie party. For lovers of
surf, sun and singer/songwriters, this one-day event includes sets by Ryan
Montbleau Band, Adam Ezra Group, Will Dailey and the Rivals, and more.
¥ Provincetown
Jazz Festival — Provincetown; Aug. 12-15; provincetownjazzfestival.org.
Go for the music
(organ queen Adrienne Hindmarsh, 14-piece big band Stage Door Canteen, lots
more), stay for the beach. ItÕs that simple.
