Jazz Fest Sets The Beat
August 2011
The Provincetown Jazz Festival will get things grooving
on Friday, August 12 at 8 PM in Provincetown Town Hall.
Opening the festival Friday will be Adrienne
Hindmarsh on organ and vocals and Josh Hindmarsh on guitar. This duo is from New Zealand and they
recently relocated to New York City. This will be their Provincetown debut, and
Adrienne will be the first jazz organist to appear at the festival. Bart
Weisman will accompany them on drums.
Returning to the festival are vocalists Holli
Ross, Sue Halloran and Jeanne OÕConnor of String of Pearls with a range of
material including the Andrews sisters, bebop, original arrangements with a
Brazilian flavor, 1960s girl group sounds, and much more. They will be
accompanied by Fred Boyle on piano, Laird Boles on bass and Weisman on drums.
Festival favorite Dane Vannatter, a Boston-based
jazz vocalist, will open the Saturday, August 13, 8PM concert, accompanied by
Boyle, Boles and Weisman.
Then, Stage Door Canteen, a 14-piece big band
will make its jazz festival debut and they are only the second big-band to appear at the festival. The band has performed all over the
East Coast as well as in Dublin, Ireland.
The Festival then moves to the Cotuit Center for
the Arts on Monday, August 15 at 8PM and will feature Dane Vannatter and Holli
Ross on vocals and Bruce Abbott on sax, accompanied by Boyle, Boles and
Weisman.
